Il presente lavoro tenta di rilevare il ruolo che il concetto di fortuna (τύχη) svolge all’interno della riflessione aristotelica sul tema dell’attribuzione di responsabilità in ambito morale. Dopo aver tratteggiato la natura di τύχη a partire dall’esaustiva trattazione che Aristotele le dedica in Fisica II 4-6, si passerà alla disamina delle analisi proposte da Nafsika Athanassoulis in merito al peso che questi assegna alla fortuna in relazione all’attribuzione di responsabilità; in particolare, si vedrà come la concezione aristotelica del rapporto fortuna-responsabilità si riveli di particolare problematicità se riferita alla ragione umana.

Nella presente ricerca ci impegniamo a tracciare un quadro complessivo della teoria strutturalista ante rem, proposta dal logico e matematico Stewart Shapiro. Questa peculiare versione di strutturalismo non eliminativo si pone come la più semplice risposta conservativa al celebre Dilemma di Benacerraf (1965). Discuteremo dei fondamenti teorici e delle implicazioni sulla base delle quali Shapiro traccia le linee guida del suo peculiare punto di vista sullo statuto della matematica. Particolare rilievo sarà accordato al problema dell'accesso epistemico agli oggetti matematici – classico della Filosofia della Matematica contemporanea. La peculiarità dell'approccio di Shapiro è tale da andare incontro a diverse critiche, le quali saranno oggetto della nostra analisi nella sua parte conclusiva.

La ricerca muoverà dal chiarimento della nozione del termine greco αiτία nel panorama della Grecia classica all'analisi del ruolo giocato da questo termine nel discorso intorno al tema della responsabilità – e al suo legame con la volontarietà – nelle Etiche aristoteliche. Nella prima sezione cercheremo di enucleare i principali significati che la parola αiτία assume nei diversi contesti culturali e " professionali " della Grecia classica, individuando due principali filoni interpretativi: la tradizione giuridico-storiografica e la riflessione intorno alla pratica medica. Inizialmente ci occuperemo della tradizione di oratoria forense ed epidittica e della tradizione storiografica, le quali associano al termine αiτία la nozione di responsabilità. In secondo luogo, prenderemo in considerazione l'ambito della pratica medica, facendo riferimento in particolare al trattato De vetere medicina, in cui la nozione di αiτία tende ad assumere un'accezione puramente causale – che sembra aprire alla moderna dinamica causa-effetto. Nella seconda parte del lavoro ci concentreremo sull'analisi della posizione assunta dalla nozione di αiτία negli scritti aristotelici. Prenderemo in considerazione la definizione di αiτιον che Aristotele propone e discute nella Metafisica, per poi esaminare alcune notabili occorrenze del nostro termine all'interno delle due Etiche. Vaglieremo, dunque, i diversi usi del termine in relazione alla tradizione interpretativa tracciata nella prima sezione del lavoro. Ciò che emergerà è un preciso schema in cui i rapporti di forza tra il tema volontarietà, la dinamica lode-biasimo e la definizione di virtù, si reggono proprio sulla nozione di αiτία. Αiτία, intesa come responsabilità causale – secondo un movimento di estensione del concetto a partire dall'ambito giuridico –, definisce e fonda il discorso etico per come è delineato nelle due Etiche aristoteliche, ponendosi come condicio sine qua non perché si possa discutere di moralità delle azioni.

Our research arises within the framework of a Gramscian analysis upon the Marxist theory of Cultural Hegemony. We attempt to clarify the role of Hegemonic Apparatuses in the Gramscian theoretical-political project, taking into account the context in which the discussion of the term arises and the different occurrences of it in the Prison Notebooks. We shall take into consideration some relevant passages from Gramsci's opus in order to address the controversial relationship that ties the concepts of Hegemony and of Ideology together with the notion of Apparatus. Particular attention will be paid to the commitment of the notion of Hegemonic Apparatus in relation to the Class Struggle dynamic and to the constitution of the State. Our analysis on the concept of Apparatus will enlighten some of the most distinctive traits of Gramsci's peculiar approach to the Philosophy of History and to the Marxist Theory, such as the attention to the material structure of ideology and the relationship between Civil Society and Political Society.

Anger is out of any doubt one of the emotions we most often have to deal with in our ordinary life, but still commonness does not imply simplicity. In our research we shall illustrate and discuss the account provided by Aristotle for the phenomenon of anger, trying to take into consideration both our ordinary understanding of the emotion and the Epic framework. Under the guidance of the Rethoric, we shall highlight some pivotal aspects of the concept attempting to delimit anger from other emotions – hatred, above all – which in our pre-reflexive understanding often fade into the former. Some of the facets we will take into account along the discussion – such as the the pain-pleasure dynamic –, will illuminate how the analysis of anger may serve as an optimum way to fathom Aristotle's peculiar understanding of the emotions in general. The study of anger, eventually, will reveal some crucial traits of the cultural environment of the Classical Greek society in which Aristotle was immersed and which considerably contributed to shape his peculiar conception of anger.

"This [thumos] is by far the most common and important hypostatic word in the whole poem [Iliad ]. It occurs three times as often as any other." (Jaynes, 1976). The term " thumos" – together with "frenes" and "nous" – denotes one of the most crucial notions in the ancient Greek conception of the soul and of the psychological life. If the importance of the term is mostly uncontroversial, its translation – and exact definition – is far from being unanimous. However, there is a wide consensus among the scholars about the tight connection between the notion of thumos and the concept of "emotional life". As often happens in the context of the ancient Greek language, the term thumos suffered some slight modifications of meaning over the centuries, one of the most important of them concerned the extension of its use to the practical-political field. With our research, we attempt to illuminate how the principles underpinning the "Aristotelian revolution" about the understanding of emotional life, i.e. conceiving emotions as tightly connected with the socio-political framework, are originally rooted in Plato's political writings. We will address the "political" shift in the understanding of thumos taking into account some relevant excerpts from Plato's Republic, and comparing them with the epic tradition. We shall conclude that if a progressive slinding of the understanding of emotions – and of thumos – towards the socio-political field was developing in the V cent. Greek cultural milieu, it did not occur abruptly with Aristotle, but it was part of a wider process that was already undergoing in Plato.

My study focusses on defixiones in Greek attested in Sicily between 550 BCE and 200 CE. I will illustrate how, despite this practice not being uniformly distributed in time and place across the entirety of Sicily, certain distinctive communalities may be identified between 550 and 400 BCE among the Sicilian defixio 'production centres' active in this period. These arguments will be illustrated by means of an analysis of the geochronological diffusion of defixiones across the island, and a study of the textual characteristics of the language of the curses.

In this paper I will examine certain epigraphic practices attested in Western Sicily during the late Archaic - early Classical period, which are relevant to novel observations regarding the identities of the multilingual and multicultural communities of Western Sicily.

In this paper I will offer an analysis of the geographical and chronological diffusion of the practice of defixio writing, attested in Sicily between 550 BCE and 200 CE. Sicilian evidence for cursing has, on one hand, been the subject of largely linguistically-focussed studies and, on the other hand, never been collected in a single, updated corpus (despite several attempts having been made to this end). The present work aims to expand and update this situation, in order to pose new questions to Sicilian defixiones thanks to the compiling of a new digital corpus of the Sicilian evidence, which may be analysed, geographically mapped and chronologically parsed.

Una riflessione sulla poetica del silenzio in Dante a partire dalla posizione espressa sul silenzio dall'autore anonimo del trattato "Sul Sublime", comunemente noto come Pseudo-Longino.
Il tentativo è quello di tracciare una sorta di breve itinerario del silenzio nell’Inferno e accennare alla sua evoluzione nel Paradiso, alla ricerca dell'essenza di una delle forme più moderne del sublime dantesco.

Dopo un primo inquadramento teorico di alcuni problemi legati alla complessità strutturale dell’Oreste euripideo,
con particolare attenzione alle relazioni tra i personaggi maschili, il lavoro s'incentra sull’analisi linguistica dei discorsi e dei dialoghi tra i tre.
Lo scopo è far emergere le divergenze tra parole e azioni di alcuni personaggi e tra un discorso e l’altro dello stesso personaggio, cercando di individuare i nodi linguistici nell’ordito letterario. In particolare, si mettono a fuoco il dialogo tra Tindareo e Menelao, i discorsi (rheseis) dell’uno e dell’altro, e le risposte di Oreste a entrambi.
